Committee & Day Of Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities
HECW volunteers serve in a variety of roles, from year-round committee work to day-of event support. Here's an overview of the main volunteer roles:
Committee roles (year-round)
- Programming Committee: Reviews and approves event applications, develops flagship event content, coordinates speakers
- Marketing & Communications Committee: Manages HECW social media, email campaigns, press relations, and brand
- Sponsorship Committee: Identifies and cultivates sponsor relationships, manages sponsor deliverables
- Volunteer Committee: Recruits, trains, and coordinates volunteers
- Logistics Committee: Manages venues, catering, AV, and day-of logistics for flagship events
Day-of volunteer roles
- Registration Lead: Manages check-in tables and registration systems
- Registration Volunteer: Greets attendees, checks them in, answers questions
- Speaker Liaison: Escorts speakers, manages AV needs, coordinates Q&A
- VIP Coordinator: Manages VIP guests and special attendees
- Wayfinding Volunteer: Helps attendees navigate the venue
- Social Media Volunteer: Live-tweets, takes photos, creates content
- General Support: Flexible role supporting wherever needed
Time commitment
Committee roles require approximately 2–5 hours per month year-round. Day-of volunteers commit to 4–8 hours during HECW week. Many volunteers do both!
